Biography

Christoph Feurstein was born in Schruns in Vorarlberg in 1972. Alongside studying German Language and Literature, as well as Theatre Arts, he started reporting for the Austrian Broadcasting Company ORF in 1994.

From 1997 on, he has been working as a contributing editor for the ORF-magazine “Thema”, concentrating on socio-political topics. Since 2007 he is also its presenter.

For the past 23 years, Christoph Feurstein has been focusing in numerous reports and documentary films on the abyss of the human soul. In 2006, his exclusive interview with Natascha Kampusch was seen across the globe. The 10-year-old girl was snatched from the street on her way home from school. Her kidnapper Wolfgang Priklopil held her in a secret cellar for more than eight years, until she escaped in 2006. Christoph Feurstein has been reporting on the case since the day of her disappearing.

Feurstein became „CNN Journalist of the year 2007“ for his documentary film about the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and for the first interview with Natascha Kampusch after her escape. Furthermore he is the recipient of many awards: The “Austrian State Prize for Journalism” (1998), the “Austrian Prize for Adult Education” (2000), the “Dr. Karl Renner Prize for long years of outstanding journalistic achievements” (2007), the “Kurier Romy” Award (2007), the “Austrian Journalism-Award for Integration” (2012), the “Prälat Leopold Ungar Prize” (2015), and the “Silver Dolphin Award” in Cannes (2015), the “Austrian Prize for Adult Education” (2018).

His first book „[ein]geprägt -Täter-Opfer-Menschen“ (Ueberreuter publishing house) was released in autumn 2006.
